A Umax alternative that never uploads your photo.

LOOKSMAXBRO is a Umax alternative for people who want the number and then something to do with it: the face is scored on your own iPhone, the photo never leaves it, and what follows the scan is a repeating 30-day plan of habits that each carry the grade its evidence earns. Everything below is what each app says about itself — ours in the app and on this site, Umax’s on its own App Store listing and in its own privacy policy.

Facts checked on 6 September 2026.

Criterion LOOKSMAXBRO Them
Where the photo is processed On your iPhone. The scoring model ships inside the app, so no photo is uploaded and none is stored on a server. Its privacy policy does not say whether the analysis runs on the device or on a server. What the Umax listing and policy do say: the App Store privacy label lists “User Content” and “Photos or Videos” among data collected for app functionality, and the policy names “selfies” and “biometric data”, states “Our servers are located in the United States”, and says “We will only keep your face scans for a maximum of one year, unless required otherwise by law.”
What arrives after the number A repeating 30-day program: a daily habit list, timed lessons with a player, and an evening close-out. Its description is three steps — download, “Take a selfie”, “Get your analysis” — plus “the tools and information to begin your self improvement journey”.
Evidence behind each habit Every habit carries the grade its evidence earns, printed beside it: sunscreen and sleep read strong, face exercises read weak. Its listing does not grade its recommendations; it says they “should be viewed as suggestions”. The grades are the app’s own catalog, and the same letters appear on every lesson page here — so a habit on this site can never promise more than the evidence behind it.
Measuring again A weekly re-scan, read as a delta per metric against your own earlier scans rather than as a fresh verdict. Its listing describes taking a selfie and getting an analysis; it does not describe a re-scan schedule.
Trying it before you install anything Four tools run in this browser — canthal tilt, face symmetry, face shape and posture check — with nothing uploaded. An iPhone app: its site is a landing page that links to the App Store, and that site lists no browser tool.
What your number is compared with Only your own previous scans, metric by metric. No leaderboard and no share-of-everyone figure. Its listing describes an AI analysis of a selfie and does not describe a comparison with other users.

Where we’re level

  • Both put a number on a selfie, on an iPhone. Umax and LOOKSMAXBRO are both iPhone apps that read one photo and hand back a rating of the face, and in both cases that number is a model’s estimate of taste rather than a measurement of a person. If a numeric face score is the whole of what you came for, both give you one.
  • Neither is medical, and both say so out loud. Umax’s App Store description says “We do not offer medical advice. Any and all recommendations should be viewed as suggestions.” LOOKSMAXBRO calls its score an aesthetic, entertainment-style metric and repeats that in its Terms. Neither app is a dermatologist, and neither should be used as one.

Who should pick which

Pick a rating app like Umax if the number itself is what you want — one selfie, one analysis, a snapshot to sit with or to send to a friend. That is a real thing to want, and an app aimed squarely at it will get you there in less time than one that also asks you to show up again tomorrow.

Pick LOOKSMAXBRO if the number is only the opening move. The scan is the cheap part; the part that changes anything is the 30 days after it — a short daily list built from the scan, lessons you actually run with a timer instead of reading, an evening close-out, and a re-scan once a week that tells you which metric moved. If you would not use a plan, that machinery is weight you do not need.

And if the thing you are actually weighing is where your face ends up, the difference between the two is not a promise but an architecture: the LOOKSMAXBRO model ships inside the app and runs on your phone, so there is no upload to trust, no server copy to delete, and no retention window to read. Umax’s policy describes the other arrangement in its own words, quoted in the table above.

Try the free tools before you install anything

Four LOOKSMAXBRO measuring tools run inside this browser tab, with no app and no account: the photo is read by a landmark model loaded into the page, and it never leaves the tab.

These are the same measurements the app puts on your weekly scan — measured here, without the plan around them.

What a face score can and cannot tell you

A face score can tell you how a machine-learning model, trained on photos that panels of human volunteers rated, estimates such a panel would have ranked one photo of you. That is the whole of it, and it is why LOOKSMAXBRO reads the number as a trend across weekly scans rather than as a fact.

It cannot tell you where you stand among other people, whether a face is good or bad, or anything medical — and lighting, angle, expression and last night’s sleep move it about as much as months of honest work do. Any face-rating app, this one included, is answering the same narrow question; the difference is what it asks you to do with the answer.

Facts checked

Every statement about Umax on this page was read off Umax’s own App Store listing and its own privacy policy in September 2026, and is quoted rather than summarized wherever the wording matters. Where its policy is silent — on whether the face analysis runs on the device or on a server — this page says it is silent instead of guessing. Store listings change, and anything here that stops matching Umax’s own pages is corrected at the next check.

Questions

Umax, and what an alternative changes.

Does Umax upload your photos?

Umax’s privacy policy does not say whether photos are analyzed on the device or on a server — it does say that the information it collects includes “selfies” and “biometric data”, that “Our servers are located in the United States”, and that “We will only keep your face scans for a maximum of one year, unless required otherwise by law” (policy last updated October 2023, read September 2026). Its App Store privacy label lists “User Content” and “Photos or Videos” among data collected for app functionality. LOOKSMAXBRO answers the question structurally instead: the scoring model ships inside the app and runs on your iPhone, so the photo never leaves the phone unless you share it yourself.

Is Umax safe?

Umax’s own store listing and privacy policy are the place that question gets answered, and both are public: the App Privacy label lists “User Content” and “Photos or Videos” among data collected, and the policy names “selfies” and “biometric data”, puts its servers in the United States, and keeps face scans for up to a year. Whether that trade is fine is your call rather than ours. LOOKSMAXBRO takes the question off the table a different way — the face is scored on your own iPhone, so there is no upload, no server copy and no retention window to read.

Is there a free Umax alternative?

LOOKSMAXBRO is a free Umax alternative to start with: the face scan itself is free on your iPhone, and four measuring tools — canthal tilt, face symmetry, face shape and posture check — run in this browser with nothing to install, no account and nothing uploaded. The eight-metric breakdown of the score is the part that needs Pro, unlocked inside the app.

What is better than Umax?

“Better” depends entirely on what you want after the number: for a one-off rating of a selfie a dedicated rating app does that job directly, and LOOKSMAXBRO is the better fit when you want the scan to lead somewhere — a repeating 30-day plan of graded habits, timed lessons, an evening close-out and a weekly re-scan that reports the delta per metric. The second thing that separates them is where the photo goes; LOOKSMAXBRO scores it on your own iPhone.

Is Umax accurate?

Umax, like every face-rating app, cannot be accurate in the way that question means, because there is no objective attractiveness for a model to be right or wrong about — LOOKSMAXBRO included, all any of them can do is estimate how one panel of human raters would have ranked one photo, and different panels disagree with each other. Lighting, angle and expression move such a number as much as a face does, which is why LOOKSMAXBRO reports it as a weekly trend against your own earlier scans rather than as a measurement.

Are apps like Umax and LOOKSMAXBRO related?

No — LOOKSMAXBRO is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Umax or Improvement Tech LLC. “Umax” is used on this page only as the name of that app, so that someone searching for a Umax alternative can read what each one says about itself side by side.

Scan it on your phone. Keep the photo.

LOOKSMAXBRO scores your face on the iPhone itself, then gives the number somewhere to go: a short daily plan of graded habits and a re-scan every week.
