Jawline exercises — 9 min, with a 3D coach

Jawline exercises train the muscles that hold the jaw from below — the floor of the mouth, the tongue and the neck behind them — which builds tone rather than bone, and tone is the whole of what this lesson claims. FaceMax B is the jaw-and-tongue lesson from the LOOKSMAXBRO app: ten moves in one order, each counted the way it is meant to be counted. The first two play right here, coach and timer and all.

The lesson, move by move

That is one pass through the block. It opens with the two moves that play here — Neck rotation, then Shoulder blade squeeze — because a jaw held on a stiff, rounded neck has nothing to work against. The eight that stay in the app go to the jaw itself: the joint first, then the floor of the mouth, the tongue and the hyoid under it, then the front of the neck. Six of the ten load the jaw joint, which is why the block is paced rather than pushed.

What the lesson trains, and do jawline exercises work

Jawline exercises work on muscle and on nothing else: this block loads the masseter and the muscles under the chin, trains the tongue and the hyoid bone beneath it, stretches the platysma down the front of the neck, and gives the jaw joint back the forward-and-back glide that clenching takes away — and the evidence that any of that visibly sharpens a jawline is weak.

A jawline is read through four layers stacked on each other: the bone, the fat over it, the water in the tissue on the day, and the angle the head is held at. Exercise moves the last two a little and the first not at all, which is why FaceMax B opens with Neck rotation and Shoulder blade squeeze — the two moves that play free in this tab — before it goes anywhere near the jaw.

Here is everything that moves a jawline at all — this lesson’s own work first — each row carrying the grade the LOOKSMAXBRO habit catalog gives it.

  • Resisted jaw work and tongue holds — masseter, floor of the mouth, hyoid weak LOOKSMAXBRO grades face-muscle work C, which this page prints as weak: slow, small gains in tone at best, over months rather than weeks.
  • Posture — the neck rotation, the shoulder blades and the deep neck work behind them moderate The best-graded work in the lesson is not the jaw work. A head that sits over the shoulders instead of in front of them changes the angle the jawline is seen at, and it changes it the same day.
  • Drainage and the puffiness that blurs the line weak Fluid moves in hours rather than months, and it comes back after a salty night. The jaw reads softer while the water is there and sharper once it is gone — which is a look, not a change.
  • Sleep strong The strongest-graded thing on this page is not an exercise. Sleep sets how much water the face holds in the morning, and the morning is when most people look.
  • The shape of the bone under it Nothing in this lesson moves bone and LOOKSMAXBRO does not claim it does. Hard gum, chewing devices and “bone smashing” do not move it either — the last one is an injury, not a method.
  • Jaw exercisers and chewing devices They load one muscle, the masseter, and there is no good evidence that this sharpens a jawline. A masseter that grows makes the lower face wider, and heavy resistance on a joint that already clicks is how it starts to hurt.

Every grade here is the app’s own, out of the habit catalog LOOKSMAXBRO builds its plans from, so nothing promises more than the evidence behind it, and a row with no chip beside it is one the catalog grades nothing at all. Surgery and fillers are out of scope: LOOKSMAXBRO does not advise on them here or in the app.

How long until results, and how often should you do jaw exercises?

Expect months rather than weeks, and expect tone rather than a new outline — that is exactly why the catalog grades this kind of work C, which this page prints as weak, instead of showing you a before-and-after. Muscle answers to frequency, and the amount of jawline it can account for is small.

Two things do change inside a week, and they are the ones usually mistaken for the exercises working: puffiness, which is water and moves overnight, and posture, which changes the angle the jaw is seen from on the first day you stop parking your head in front of your shoulders. Both are on the list above, and both are graded higher than the jaw work itself.

FaceMax B is built to be safe daily — its briefing asks for seven days a week, on the principle that a joint learns a new range from rhythm rather than effort — and the LOOKSMAXBRO plan schedules the block every other day. Nothing in it is heavy enough to need a rest day; the gap between sessions is how the catalog paces a face block, not a safety limit, and the briefing’s seven days is the ceiling rather than the requirement. The app asks for the morning too, between 8:00 and 13:00, because the fluid you sleep on is part of what you are working on — and it counts the session either way. Skip the day if the joint clicks, crunches or aches: soreness there is a reason to rest it, never to push through.

Careful. These are posture and face-muscle exercises, not treatment. Skip the session if any of this applies:
  • Acute infection or fever
  • Skin inflammation on the face or neck
  • Thrombosis, heart failure
  • Cancer, diagnosed lymphedema

Dizziness, sharp pain or a click in the joint — stop. Nothing here should hurt.

The marked moves load the jaw joint. Teeth apart, the mouth opening no wider than two or three fingers, no forcing — a click, a crunch, a lock or pain means stop for the day.

Questions

Do jawline exercises work, and other questions

Do jawline exercises work?

Jawline exercises build tone in the muscles that hold the jaw — the masseter, the floor of the mouth and the tongue — but no exercise changes the bone underneath, and the LOOKSMAXBRO habit catalog grades face-muscle work weak. The visible part of a jawline is mostly the fat and the fluid over it and the angle the head is held at: the fluid moves in a day, the posture in a week or two, the bone not at all.

How long does it take to see results from jawline exercises?

Months rather than weeks: the tone that face-muscle work builds arrives slowly and in small amounts, which is why the LOOKSMAXBRO FaceMax B lesson carries a weak evidence grade instead of a promise. What can change within days is puffiness and head position, so a face that looks sharper after a week of this lesson has usually drained and straightened rather than grown muscle.

How often should you do jaw exercises?

The LOOKSMAXBRO FaceMax B lesson is built to be safe daily — its briefing asks for seven days a week — and the LOOKSMAXBRO plan schedules the jaw block every other day, because a joint learns a new range from rhythm rather than from one hard session. Stop for the day if the jaw joint clicks, crunches, locks or aches: six of the lesson’s ten moves load that joint, and soreness there is a reason to rest it rather than to push on.

Are jawline exercises the same as mewing?

No — mewing means holding the tongue against the palate all day long, while the LOOKSMAXBRO FaceMax B lesson trains the tongue in timed sets instead: seconds at a time, counted, as part of a nine-minute block that also works the jaw joint and the front of the neck. The LOOKSMAXBRO habit catalog carries tongue posture with no evidence grade at all in adults, and this page gives the row no chip for exactly that reason.

Is a jaw exerciser or chewing gum better than jawline exercises?

A jaw exerciser and hard gum load one muscle, the masseter, while the LOOKSMAXBRO FaceMax B lesson works the whole set that holds the jaw from below — the floor of the mouth, the tongue, the hyoid and the neck behind them. Neither approach has good evidence for sharpening a jawline, a masseter that grows widens the lower face rather than sharpening it, and heavy resistance on a joint that already clicks is the quickest way to make it hurt.

Are jawline exercises safe?

Jawline exercises are safe for most people as long as the effort stays moderate and nothing is forced, and the LOOKSMAXBRO FaceMax B lesson is built that way: teeth apart, the mouth opening no wider than two or three fingers, and a stop rule at any click, crunch, lock or pain in the joint or the teeth. The states that call for skipping a session entirely — an acute infection or fever, inflamed skin on the face or neck, thrombosis or heart failure, cancer or diagnosed lymphedema — are the four LOOKSMAXBRO lists before the lesson starts.

Can jawline exercises get rid of a double chin?

No exercise removes fat from one spot, so jawline exercises do not remove a double chin: what sits under the chin is fat and fluid, and it answers to overall body fat, to sleep and salt, and to drainage rather than to reps. The LOOKSMAXBRO FaceMax B lesson does train the muscles under the chin, which is the layer beneath that fat — tone, not volume.
